Michael F. Brown was born in St.Louis Mo. on 11/13/71 to a family of 10 brothers and sisters, all artists in their own right. From as far back as i can remember i was surrounded by art all the time. We created our own toys, comic books and other crafts growing up so u might say art is part of my DNA. I have been a professional artist for over 15yrs now. It actually started in my senior year in highschool were i took up Commercial Arts at South County Tech for two of my final four years in school. I got graded and paid to do portraits for students and teachers cause my teacher ran out of things to teach me. Once i made my first dollar i was hooked and i knew there was nothing else i would rather do than draw for a living. I graduated at the top of my class and set out to be a full time artist. But as fate would have it, it would be another 12 yrs of working crappy jobs and doing art on the side and entering endless competitions that cost more to enter than actually win to decide to get off the wheel and try a different approach. So i got rid of the house, the cars, credit cards and everything that chained me to a life i no longer enjoyed and took a leap of faith in my art and self to pack up my necessities and move to kansas City Mo. and start a completely different life than what i led in St.Louis. Here i was not gonna let fear rule my life anymore and i will be a full-time artist no matter the cost or inconvenience of it. Thru homelessness, frequent apartment evictions, poverty, frustration, near successes, pitiful faliures and hard lessons learned i continue to make good on my promise to myself to be a full-time artist. It's been nearly 4 yrs ago since i made that decision, and i'm still going. Truth be told folks i don't have a list of accomplishments or resume of galleries and awards to bore you with. I won awards and showcased at galleries but the only thing that matters to me when i look at an artist or a product to buy is it's quality and attention to details. So that is what i focus on as an artist and i expect my customers to do their homework and ask me the questions that want to ask and use their eyes to see what is right before them. The most important thing about an artist and a piece of artwork is not necessarily where the artist has been or accomplished as an artist, but where hi/her art takes you in the mind and the world of your emotions. You be the judge, let no one tell you what is art and what is not, this is a personal journey. Take it and enjoy the art.
