Jaque uses her attachment to detail to enrich her connection to art and the world around her. She finds that the details of life seem to be left out or forgotten by most and she naturally brings those details of life into her work, whether its sculpture, painting, video etc.
Her process usually beings with sets of questions and writings, that begin to arise from watching the people or world around her, and they may be as simple as has anyone ever seen this little ant walk on this brick outside this Rocket Bakery coffee shop? although this question seems to answer in itself, the questions seem to keep piling up one after another until she needs to answer them with some form of art that seems most appropriate.
For her process with the material casting slip, a liquid clay body is used. Jaque uses multiple containers to create different amounts of slip that gets poured out. She uses these containers to create gestures simiar to a writing pattern, she will pour thousands of shapes and sizes that being to take form as a type of lyrical writing, this process is unique for Jaque for that it is a way to think about her previous questions, and also a form of meditation. She does not force the slip to dry at a speed and allows them to take shape as they please, whether they bulk, warp , twist etc. She feels that life cant be forced, why should she force her work, it wouldnt be natural for her and her work wouldnt reflect her nature.
After the ceramic slip is fired she takes those and arranges them into a form, this structure may be premeditated but this thought is watered down and not a permanat fixed idea. She doesnt commit to any of the ideas mainly because she feels as life changes so does the way she works, and those pieces may not work well in the premeditated sculpture, which in turn she lets the slip she poured out guide her with what they become.
Finally, to finish with a statement about her other mediums, including her process with slip. Jaque is a fresh artist and finds herself excited to work outside of slip, when taking her hands off slip, her process still begins the same with sets of questions and writings, and finds that some other mediums may be more exceptional to the answer the questions she asks herself. The forms such as video, photography and others are experimental but all focus on her initial reaction to life, and thats the detail she can pull out of a situation and press forward for the viewer to focus in on.
